As a new infrastructure series, the investment and construction of charging piles and power swap stations is expected to become one of the key areas for growth in infrastructure construction in 2022, and charging piles are expected to usher in a new outlet.

Publishing development plans for charging piles in many places

Recently, Beijing officially issued the "Beijing City Management and Development Plan during the 14th Five-Year Plan Period", which will strengthen the supply of municipal public services and solve the problems of people's livelihood such as "difficulty in charging". By the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan", there will be 700,000 electric vehicle charging piles in Beijing. The average service radius of public charging facilities in plain areas is less than 3 kilometers, and the core area is less than 0.9 kilometers, alleviating citizens' anxiety about charging.

Before Beijing, some provinces have proposed the development goals of the "14th Five-Year Plan" electric vehicle charging pile construction. Among them, Hunan plans to have more than 400,000 charging facilities by 2025, while Shanghai aims to build 200,000 new charging piles by the end of 2025. Guangdong and Shandong have proposed the target of the number of charging piles built by 202, Jiangxi has proposed to achieve full coverage of charging piles in expressway service areas, and Guizhou has made a plan for the cumulative number of charging piles in 2023.

In the construction of charging piles, the State Grid has contributed a lot. According to reports, during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, China Southern Power Grid will invest 10 billion yuan to vigorously promote the construction of charging facilities. It is expected that by the end of next year, it will first realize full coverage of charging piles in towns and villages in five provinces, including Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan.

From the perspective of top-level design, on March 22, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration issued the "14th Five-Year Plan for Modern Energy System". The plan pointed out that by 2025, new energy vehicles will account for about 20% of new car sales. Optimize the layout of charging infrastructure, comprehensively promote the coordinated development of vehicle piles, promote the two-way interaction of energy and information between electric vehicles and smart grids, and carry out pilot demonstrations of new charging and swapping power stations that combine light, storage, charging, and replacement.

The promotion of the policy has provided an important impetus for the future development of the electric vehicle charging pile industry in various provinces and cities in China. Some research institutions pointed out that the construction task of the new charging station proposed earlier has not been completed, but it also means that the market demand for the charging pile industry will remain strong in the next five years, and the future market development space is huge with the support of the government.

100 billion market space to be tapped

In 2020, as a supporting facility for the promotion of new energy vehicles, charging piles were written into the government work report for the first time and included in the field of new infrastructure, becoming one of the seven major industries. The state has set the tone for steady growth in 2022, and the National Development and Reform Commission has proposed to carry out infrastructure investment in a moderately advanced manner. The policy to promote infrastructure investment in 2022 is expected to continue to advance. The investment and construction of new energy vehicle charging piles and swap stations belong to the new infrastructure series, and is expected to become one of the key areas for infrastructure growth in 2022.

As an important supporting facility for new energy vehicles, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles continues to rise, driving the development of the charging pile industry. Data show that by the end of 2021, the number of new energy vehicles in the country was 7.84 million. At the same time, with the obvious increase in market acceptance, it is expected that the sales of new energy vehicles will continue to usher in rapid growth in 2022, and the overall sales are expected to exceed the 6 million mark. Some people in the industry pointed out that in the context of heavy sales of new energy vehicles, the construction of charging piles will inevitably accelerate. In terms of market space, the global charging market is worth $3.23 billion in 2020 and is expected to grow to $11 billion by 2025. The industry has yet to emerge from giants, and there is still a lot of room for new entrants. The total investment in the charging pile market in the next ten years will be nearly one trillion yuan, and it is expected that the cumulative market space will exceed one hundred billion yuan from 2020 to 2025. According to the forecast of a third-party organization, by 2030, the market size of charging piles in my country will increase by 30 times.
